Ford Motor Company car sales, comprised of passenger cars from the Ford and Lincoln brands, fell over 55 percent to 27,253 units in the United States market during the first quarter of 2021.

All six FoMoCo car nameplates saw a decline in U.S. sales during Q1 2021. The Ford Fiesta reported the largest decrease of 95 percent and the Ford Fusion followed with a 79 percent drop. Both models have been discontinued.
The Ford Mustang reported a 4 percent decline in sales during the quarter, posting 17,274 deliveries. Despite the decrease in sales volume, the Mustang remained the best-selling model in its segment, though its segment share fell 4 percentage points to 44 percent compared to 48 percent in Q1 2020.
The discontinued Fusion saw sales fall 79 percent to 7,889 units during the first quarter of 2021, while the similarly-discontinued Lincoln MKZ and Continental saw declines of 64 percent and 51 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the discontinued Ford Fiesta saw a drop of 95 percent, delivering 51 units.
The Ford GT supercar experienced a 58 percent drop in deliveries to 22 units. As we have pointed out over the past few years here at Ford Authority, comparing Ford GT sales to those of other segment contenders (such as the Chevy Corvette or even the likes of the Mercedes-Benz SL or AMG GT) isn’t exactly an apples-to-apples comparison, since the GT is a very different product compared to the other models in the space. In particular, the way Ford builds and sells the GT super car is extraordinarily different than from any other segment contender. While the GT is still in production, all units have already been spoken for.
Ford Motor Company has substantially trimmed its sedan portfolio over the last several years in the United States, discontinuing the majority of passenger cars in order to focus on crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks. Meanwhile, the Dearborn-based automaker has expanded its utility portfolio with the Bronco and Bronco Sport, while also introducing a new crossover-like hatch in the form of the Mustang Mach-E. Most recently, The Blue Oval also revealed the Ford Maverick – an all-new compact unibody pickup.
As it reconfigures its vehicle portfolio, FoMoCo is also embarking on new-age mobility opportunities such as electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles. As such, the steep drop in Ford car sales comes as no surprise.

Maybe i wont be the first to say it. But discontinuing the Fusion was a BIG MISTAKE!
It was an all around bang for the buck, reliable, sporty, and great appearance. It was the go to American sedan. Please bring it back Ford, not everyone wants an SUV.
