Ford F-150 Lightning Outsells Cybertruck, Silverado EV And Sierra EV In Q2 2025

Sales of the Ford F-150 Lightning (see running Ford F-150 Lightning sales) slid 26 percent to 5,842 units during the second quarter of 2025, leading a niche segment of five electric pickup trucks when ranked by sales volume.

The Tesla Cybertruck, the newest model here, followed in second place with a 46 percent downturn to 4,306 units. It was followed by Ford’s crosstown rival, the Chevy Silverado EV (see running Chevy Silverado EV sales), which took third as sales grew 39 percent to 3,056 units. The Rivian R1T placed fourth with a 21 percent slide to 1,752 units. The GMC Sierra EV (see running GMC Sierra EV sales), corporate sibling of the Silverado EV, finished out the list with 1,524 deliveries.

Note that sales of both the Cybertruck and R1T are estimates from analysts, as neither Tesla nor Rivian break out the figures on a model line basis.

The Ford Authority Take

Though Ford F-150 Lightning sales were in the red during Q2 2025, The Blue Oval’s electric truck still led the pack and outpaced The General’s two trucks on a combined basis, as well as the Tesla Cybertruck.

Compared to their gas-powered counterparts, sales of these battery electric trucks account for little more than a rounding error. For example, ICE-powered Ford F-Series sales, which includes the F-150 and Super Duty lines, moved 222,459 units during this same quarter compared to a measly 5,842 of the F-150 Lightning, with the EV model comprising just 2.5 percent of all FoMoCo truck sales.

We don’t expect this to change much in the future, unless demand for battery electric trucks significantly increases.

About Ford F-150 Lightning

The Ford F-150 Lightning is the battery electric version of the best-selling F-150 full-size pickup truck.

The 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning gets a new package and software updates. That includes the new Dark Elements appearance package, available on the Platinum trim level, adding 22-inch black-painted wheels, black Ford ovals and badging, and a black interior.

Here are all three 2025 F-150 Lightning packages explained and everything you need to know about the grilles. The 2025 drops the Avalanche paint color but adds a new Space White Metallic hue. Check out the 2025 Lightning paint colors and available wheels.

The all-electric full-size pickup truck also gets BlueCruise 1.4, which offers a smoother, more natural hands-free highway driving experience.

F-150 Lightning customers can now access real-time charging information in the vehicle (including current charging speed), set a universal charge limit for all locations instead of only for an individual charger, and schedule preferred charge times at specific locations. North American Charging Standard (NACS) fast charging stations have now been integrated into Apple CarPlay, and customers can purchase an optional Tesla adapter that enables them to use those types of chargers.

For 2025, the maximum DC fast charging current has improved from 450 amps to 500 amps.

The 2025 F-150 Lightning drops the standard eLocking rear axle, as the automaker has opted to include the E-Locker (as it’s otherwise known) as part of the optional Max Trailer Tow Package, and also ditched the Interior Work Surface feature for the XLT and Flash trims, though it’s still standard on the Lariat and Platinum.

But, the Flash trim gains standard ActiveX seating instead of cloth, while across the lineup the spare tire is now optional, replaced by the Tire Inflator and Seal Kit. The 2025 model also gains standard SiriusXM 360L and retains the factory installed SecuriCode Keypad after all, on two trims.

The all-electric full-size pickup truck also gets BlueCruise 1.4, which offers a smoother, more natural hands-free highway driving experience.

Additionally, Ford BlueOval SK just began battery production for the F-150 Lightning, and two prototypes were recently spotted testing. The first is a prototype testing in Arizona, while the second is possible Tremor variant testing in Michigan.

  1. Hilarious, remember Musk posting on X about over 1M Cybertruck pre-orders? They’re going to give back almost all of those $100 ‘pre-order’ deposits, or maybe the 1M number was another Musk ‘estimate’? Scam CEO, Scam TSLA stock.

  2. Just like Ford, they can be the leader in something, but they aren’t doing much to improve their vehicles to keep being the leader of the pack.

I would say, if Ford doesn’t improve the Lightning in the next model year, not just with a new trim or color, but with a drastic range increase and maybe a smaller feature, the other EV trucks will surpass it.

The fast the Lightning looks just like an ICE F-150 is what makes it great. The EV Silverado and Sierra don’t look like their ICE counterparts, so it’s already different. They also don’t have CarPlay and Android Auto, so this is already a big win for Ford for a lot of consumers that want these in their vehicles.

I think Ford taking away the interior work surface for all the models is a mistake. This is a great feature, and it should have been kept for all of their trucks.

Let’s see what’s going to happen to the Lightning in the new few months, but also the next couple of years, as they aren’t going to release a new one until 2028, since they keep pushing it out.
