Ford Mustang sales decreased in the United States, Mexico, and South Korea while increasing in Brazil during the fourth quarter of 2020.

The 21 percent decrease in U.S. Ford Mustang sales during the fourth quarter of 2020 keeps Ford’s pony car in second place in its segment by sales volume, directly behind the Dodge Challenger but ahead of the Chevy Camaro. Challenger sales were up 2 percent, making it the only model within the set to post an increase. Meanwhile, Camaro sales slid 32 percent, a more severe decline than the Mustang’s 21 percent.

The two-door muscle car segment contracted an average of 17 percent to 35,607 units, meaning that Mustang sales underperformed the segment average.

Ford Mustang sales dominated the segment during the COVID-19-ridden Q2 2020, however, as Ford Authority predicted The Blue Oval’s pony car slipped to second place during the third quarter, and maintained this position during the final quarter of the year.
We expect sales to start picking back up in 2021, when Ford’s pony gains a new variant in the form of the 2021 Mustang Mach 1, which will indirectly replace the Bullitt and Shelby GT350. As reported by Ford Authority, the very first units of the Mach 1 began shipping to dealers this week from the Ford Flat Rock plant.
A very cool example of a famous machine.
The convenience of a camper without the trailer.
They're more powerful than the cars than won Le Mans.
A sign of things to come?

Any sales figure for 2020 needs an asterisk and probably 2021 numbers as well. This pandemic has thrown a tilt in the economy and it maybe years before the economists can come up with a number on the damage to the economy. What these sales numbers need is the average retail priced paid.
In looking at the figures for the entire year 2020, Mustang outsells both the Challenger and the Camaro. Why isn’t that the headline? Still, it’s amazing how much life is left in the relatively old Challenger. I agree with GeorgeS...2020 was a bizarre year.
Ford is $148 billion in debt. Look it up. The American automotive industry is finished. The conversion to the red-hot electric market - representing 1.8 percent of annual sales - finally killed them.
Mmm, seems folks have been saying this since the '70's....they're still here....
Please learn how to read. Ford, according to Barron’s has 150 billion in debt. However, 130 of it comes from Ford credit, which acts like a bank. Ford not only makes money from selling ford and Lincoln, but takes in a nice profit from their credit dept. in fact, according to Barron’s, ford credit assets would make it a top 20 bank in the world. Again, a little DD before you spew nonsense.
The Challenger is an overweight, low-tech, outdated platform, with no convertible option. When gas prices rise again, sales will drop. Mustang will always be popular, and I for one, have no interest in an electric car until there is no other alternative. But there is a high-performance, electric Mustang for anyone who wants one. What does FCA have?
Ford has an excellent product line. It's the marketing department that needs an overhaul.
Electric powered vehicles are definitely the future. But the Mustang Mach E nameplate is like producing a Shelby Cobra as a Station-wagon. Come on Ford people get real. If it isn't going to be designed as a performance sports car as originally intended, let it go. Call it what it is...something different.
It is very interesting to read about manufacturers thoughts of the future. Ford is coming out NEXT year with a new Raptor to compete with the current TRX. Dodge has it figured out by being progressive in what the consumer wants now and the industry is trying to catch up. I'm not a Chrysler fan (or whatever they call the company this week) but they have been very successful in marketing some of their products.
It was also interesting to note that Camaro was 3rd in sales behind 2nd place Mustang and 1st place Challenger. Do you suppose the news that Camaro will be discontinued soon has anything to do with last place? How in the world can Challenger be ahead of the global icon, Mustang. Marketing my friend. Sell performance, not the cheap interior/exterior.
Look at the Continental. Perhaps one of the finest motorcars ever produced. Scrapped. Poor marketing equals poor sales.
And, how about the new GM logo, gm. Biggest bonehead decision ever.
Ford Authority is always asking for comments and thoughts for their column and these are just a couple that come to mind after reading their articles.
Cheers.
LOVE my challenger AWD!!! It's one of the safest nicest cars I've driven. I've owned Shelby GT500,mustang Hipo, camaro iroc and z28. All great cars. This is the first decent car I can drive all year in northeast. Gas mileage is in mid to hi 20s. With a low carbon footprint due to updated emissions. I a glad to hear they are catching on in sales. Regarding electric cars. They have a long way to go still to be attractive to everyone. Charging time for one. Who wants to fuel up their caddy for 5 hours on a highway? Diesels still have a place. Try hauling a 4 horse rig with gas engine nevermind an electric truck??? Forget it if it gets stuck. I am behind green but it needs to evolve. It's going to take time. Personally, I am old school and love to hear the exhaust roar and rear end gears grab....
LOL every time they call the Challenger and Charger "American muscle"..Uhh, they're assembled in Canada.
Btw, a 2020 Escape SEL with 2.0 is faster 0-60 than a Challenger
Someone help me please! It's look like the mustang out sold the other guys but yet the arcitcial states they slid to No. 2 ? But I would love to see AWD in the next mustang but not grow fat . It's my opinion you either want a fast GOOD handling car Mustang/Camaro or just a fast car that other guy.☺
Why no Ford of Europe figures?
A quick response is fca is in serious trouble. You claim they figured out selling sedans and v8s but the truth is the company was losing a lot of money buying carbon credits from Tesla to comply with emission laws. Also, fca had way more than 4 brands, you forgot about the Italian side....fiat, Alfa Romeo, madasarti and so on. Now they have even more brands on the French side.
The complaint about fords eccoboost is just dumb. For example, the 2.3 in the ranger is widely recognized as a great engine for the segment, but snobs prefer a v6 would talk bad about it. From a business point of view, yea ford knows what it’s doing. It’s why they ate fca’s lunch.
Every company can do better than they currently are? When compared to FCA, from a quality standpoint, I agree that FCA is in way more trouble than Ford. Can Ford do better in this area? For sure. But FCA has much more ground to make here.
