The upswing in Ford E-Transit sales is encouraging as demand for electric vehicles across the board appears to have stagnated.
FoMoCo initially planned to produce 600,000 EVs a year by 2024, but pushed this goalpost back in the wake of falling demand for EVs. Of that number, The Blue Oval eyed a goal of producing 150,000 E-Transit vans annually, although the automaker has acknowledged that EV adoption is slower than its initial projections indicated.
Even so, E-Transit production numbers soared during the first quarter of 2023 to meet demand, as the electric van is recognized as one of the most popular fleet EVs. Companies like Meals on Wheels to the United States Postal Service have adopted the electric van, prompting Ford to ramp up production with focus on improving supply of the more popular medium- and low-roof variants. More recently, California Vanpool Authority (CalVans) added 400 units of the E-Transit to its fleet, and so did Michigan-based Consumers Energy.
