For the sake of context, the table above shows sales data for body-on-frame midsize pickup trucks, such as the Ford Ranger (see running Ford Ranger sales). While these pickups technically slot one segment above the Maverick, they are sometimes cross-shopped with the smaller Maverick. Taking a look at the numbers, we can see that the Maverick outsold its larger sibling, the Ranger, more than two-fold. Ford’s compact truck even outpaced GM’s midsize duo, the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, on a combined basis by nearly 12K units this quarter, which posted 26,959 and 9,243 sales, respectively, for a total of 36,202.

The Ford Authority Take

Ford Maverick sales are on a roll, with its lone competitor, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, just barely on the map at this point. Ford’s popular compact pickup truck did so well in the second quarter of 2025 that it potentially cannibalized sales of its bigger sibling, the Ford Ranger, and likely from other midsize trucks like the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon and Nissan Frontier. In fact, the Maverick outsold every midsize truck, including the GM duo combined, with the exception of the perennial sales champ of the midsize segment, the Toyota Tacoma.

Additionally, a whopping 60 percent of Maverick sales in the last quarter went to buyers who are new to the Ford brand.

The Maverick’s overwhelming sales success could be attributed to the 2025 model year refresh, which addressed the various friction points of the pre-refresh pickup. Beyond that, the Maverick’s low price and resulting value proposition makes it more affordable than midsize pickup trucks, while offering enough utility and performance.
