The compact premium crossover segment (premium crossover C-segment) expanded nearly 57 percent to 100,730 units during the second quarter of 2021, meaning the Corsair underperformed the segment average. Notably, the Corsair reported the lowest sales growth in the segment.
The increase in Lincoln Corsair sales during the second quarter of 2021 is welcome news following complications brought on by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which Lincoln parent firm, Ford Motor Company, as well as all other automakers, to idle all vehicle production in the Americas, Europe, China, South America, and in other parts of the world during the various periods of the 2020 calendar year. Production resumed in May 2020 for Ford’s North American operations.
The fact that Corsair sales increased but at a pace slower than that of its direct rivals is likely the result of sub-optimal inventory levels caused by the ongoing microchip shortage.
It’s also worth noting that all four of Lincoln’s utility models posted an increase during the second quarter of 2021.
