Ford Ranger sales decreased more than 17 percent to 27,148 units in the United States during Q4 2020, causing the midsize truck to fall to third place in its segment by sales volume.
The results place the Ranger behind the Toyota Tacoma, which outsold the Ranger almost three-fold, and the Chevrolet Colorado, which sold a mere 561 units more than the Ranger. Ranger sales topped that of the Jeep Gladiator and Nissan Frontier- the third- and fourth-place finishers, respectively. Meanwhile, the GMC Canyon brought up the final spot but posted the largest increase in the segment of 38 percent.

The mid-size mainstream pickup truck segment expanded nearly 6 percent to 170,161 units in Q4 2020, meaning that the Ranger significantly underperformed the segment average.
Below, we’re including Honda Ridgeline sales for informational purposes, as the model straddles the midsize and full-size pickup truck segments.

The decrease in Ranger sales during Q4 2020 was disappointing after the momentum generated in Q1 2020 as well as during Q2 2020 and Q3 2020. The decline caused the pickup truck to lost its status as America’s second best-selling midsize pickup truck and fall into third place.
Notably, FoMoCo idled its Ford Michigan Assembly Plant, which builds the Ranger for North American markets, in March as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. The plant resumed production in May 2020 with new processes in place for COVID-related worker safety. As such, a drop in sales isn’t surprising, as it could have been the result of sub-optimal inventory levels. Moving forward, we expect Ford Ranger sales to grow once supply comes more aligned with demand.

I believe if ford offered the 2.7 EB that would make boost in sales. It isn't like the Toy is problem free issues like frame rust transmission shifting and the V6 issues have haunted the truck.
The Toyota is more reliable in every aspect to include: Far lower cost of ownership, thus holding its cash value! The ecoboom engines are not known Across the Fleet as "reliable, long life mills". I know some idiot will post something about a guy that drinks at the same bar he frequents nightly, knows a guy, who half-brother has a 2.7EB that has gone two million miles, etc. etc.. I of course am talking about Fleet wide, not "that guy".
You should tell Ford the eco boost motors are failing. The dealers and mechanics don’t know. Toyota is reliable but it’s a lot easier with 10 year old technology.
Word is that the Ranger will even get an optional 325-hp twin-turbo V6. If the full sized (not Jr) Bronco has it, the Ranger is slated to also get it at some point, given the shared platform. 2023 & 2024 should be good years for Ranger options, especially if it eventually gets the promised Bronco hybrid powertrain.
Of the top 3, only Ranger had better sales than 2019, I wouldn't call that "slipping".
But also, early in 2019 not only did Ford shut down plants for worker safety (& then reopen at part capacity, again for worker safety) but they also repurposed to produce parts for medical ventilators/respirators. They should be celebrated for helping to save lives.
(I think it's pretty cool that doctors were walking around saving lives b/c the blowers in their positive pressure hoods were modified F-150 dashboard blowers & filter units!)
With all the versions of the Ranger. I have waited for 8 years for the 4 door version. Why can't they make a Sport Trac version of the Ranger. With a folding rear seat with a 60/40 split. I was going to buy a new ranger, but I need a folding rear seat to take my dogs with me. Please make one with a electric rear window. Thanks. Could you please do that.
Thanks for the 4 door Ranger. Sweet truck. What will the new Maverick truck look like
Maybe it's the high climb to the cab even on the two wheel drive model. Maybe it's the added market value stickers Ford dealers put on because they think they Have Something Special.
The dealers are pushing the f150, and any Ranger buyers are pushed into an f150. Only 1 engine hurts too.
