Ford Escape sales decreased in the United States and Canada while increasing in Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina during Q4 2021.

The decrease in Ford Escape sales during Q4 2021 puts The Blue Oval’s compact crossover in fifth place in its segment when ranked by sales volume. The segment was led by the Toyota RAV4, which posted a 26 percent decrease in sales to 94,292 units. The Honda CR-V took second as sales fell 26 percent to 71,131 units, while the Nissan Rogue (comprised of two models – the regular Rogue and Rogue Sport) saw sales jump 152 percent to 50,955 units. The new Hyundai Tucson took fourth as sales grew 7.3 percent to 34,902 units. The Escape took fifth with sales dropping to 28 percent to 33,624 units, while all other segment contenders posted less than 32,000 deliveries.
The Ford Escape was not alone in experiencing a sales decline, as most models in the segment were in the red this last quarter. In fact, only five models saw sales gains, including the Escape’s corporate sibling – the Ford Bronco Sport, which posted the largest increase of 426 percent to 26,965 units, followed by the Mitsubishi Outlander with a 243 percent uptick to 12,606 units.

The Q4 2021 sales performance gives the Escape a segment share of seven percent, equal to that of the year-ago quarter. The seven percent figure is a fraction of the 20 percent share commanded by the RAV4, up one percentage point from the year-ago quarter, and 15 percent claimed by the Honda CR-V, flat compared to Q4 2020.
However, Ford now fields two vehicles in this segment – the Escape and the Bronco Sport. The latter held a six percent segment share, up a healthy five percentage points from the year-ago quarter. Combining sales of both models gives The Blue Oval 60,589 deliveries, good for a 13 percent segment share. That’s better than the seven percent held by the Escape alone, but still behind the top two leaders.

The compact mainstream crossover segment contracted 28 percent to 475,871 units in Q4 2021, meaning Ford Escape sales were in line with the segment average during the quarter.
The drop in Ford Escape sales during Q4 2021 is a bit deflating after the 21 percent rebound during Q2 2021. That, in turn, followed 10 consecutive quarters of declines, including a 15 percent sales drop in Q1 2021 along with drops in volume for Q4 2020, Q3 2020, Q2 2020, Q1 2020, Q4 2019, Q3 2019, Q2 2019, Q1 2019, and Q4 2018.
The Escape is most likely still adjusting to the adverse effects of the present pandemic, however, it’s worth noting that the current, fourth-generation model already faced sales issues upon launch. Typically, sales increase when an all-new model is introduced and completes its launch. In FoMoCo’s case, the automaker completed the generational changeover from the last-gen Escape during the final quarter of 2019.
Ford is working on a refreshed Escape that will hopefully address potential product issues associated with the current model, including its arguably forgettable styling. The updated model is expected to launch for the 2023 model year, and the very first prototypes have already been spied testing with a new, more aggressive front styling. In addition, Ford will likely need to make the Escape more attractive to lease, as the current model has had somewhat low residual values when compared to its direct competitors. Until then, Escape sales will likely continue to settle in mid-pack.

A very nice example of this generation SUV.
A feature that could come in handy during extremely cold temps.
Many are carrying that debt into new vehicle purchases.
Something it did just a couple of years ago, too.

I looked at the 2020 Escape and didn’t care for the change either. It was too rounded, the head lights didn’t blend well, something was off. What I didn’t like was the dial shifter, that was and is a major turn off. I loved the previous generation in Ruby Red. Guess what the dealer says he just got one in from a lease turn in. Perfect I bought the 2017 Ruby Red Titanium all wheel drive with the turbo engine, with roof racks and moon roof on the spot. Love at first sight.
Well, when you feminize the hell out of the looks, compared to the cool, boxy original version, then this is what you get! I only know one guy who drives one & that is because it belongs to his girlfriend. Other than that, I usually only see women driving them.
I wish Ford would announce info on the ‘23 model year Escapes. Does anyone have any idea when specs might be released?
Ford struggle so much in the 'on-road' SUV category, it's kind of surprising, but it's also been happening for a long time.
They can make some amazing products when they have a dedicated team making a real effort, but the don't seem to do it here. Are they not interested in the on-road SUV? There seems to be HUGE potential growth for them in this category
Ford needs to find its niche with the Escape, make it the sports car CUV or the luxury CUV. Bland is not selling well.
Also, Ford is going to spiral into obsolescence when instead of working harder to make their cars successful, it continues to shutter brands like Focus, Fusion, and Taurus.
To each his own I guess! I just ordered an escape, largely because I feel it stands out from the goofy big front RAV4 and CRV. I like the smooth curves. I also liked the real world performance that people are getting with the Hybrid.
