So recently I’ve been on Ford’s on-line configurator trying to spec out a 2024 F-150 in either the King Ranch or Platinum series trim lines. Much to my surprise I have discovered that the 5.0 V8 is evidently not available in these two upper trim lines! I don’t want a V6, turbo charged or not, I want the 5.0 V8! I am a Ford guy, I don’t want to shop elsewhere. Have they really eliminated the V8 from the King Ranch and Platinum series trim lines?!

Although Ford has listed the Transit Connect as being a “truck” we view it as something more. So, for those of you interested in knowing what it takes and how much it cost to install a sports suspension for a 2019-2023 Transit Connect, Here’s a list of recommended performance parts that we’ve successfully installed on our 2020 Connect:

    Bilstein B6 Struts = $134.00 ea.
    Bilstein B6 Shocks = $144.00 ea.
Eibach or Cobra Suspension 40mm Lowering Springs = $100.00 (Rear Set Only)
Super-Pro Adjustable End Links = $129.59 (Front Set)
Random Set of 19” Wheels = $300.00 ea.
Random Set of 245/40/r19 Tires = $340.00 ea.
    Wheel/Hub Rings = $25.00 (Pack of 4)
Budge Acorn Tuner Lugs = $78.00 (Set of 20 Lugs)
    Powerstop Carbon Fiber/Ceramic Pads = $80.00 (Set of 4)

Note: Lowering Spring Kits typically have a 20mm front spring and a 40mm rear spring. These kits will work on vans with 16”, 17” & 18” wheels. However the 20mm front spring will not work on van’s with 19” or 20” inch wheels without rolling the fenders. If you’re running 19” or 20” wheels,

The Bilstein B6 Struts will work with the factory front coil springs.. But you may need to cut 5mm-8mm off the front coil spring in order to level off the van as there is a height difference of approx. 10mm-15mm as compared to the rear coil springs. This means that our van is lower at the rear than the front. Installation of the rear coil springs will took less than 40 min but the lower shock mount will need to be disconnected and the rear dead axle will need to be supported.

Installing lowering springs is NOT recommended for hauling. If One is planning on Hauling or towing, They will need to have a air bag system installed.

Here’s what can one expect with this setup:

With the van being lowered, The ride can be rough at times. The best and first thing anyone should do is install a set of the adjustable end links. We found that Ford installed a set of their 12” end links and these are actually too long. Aftermarket companies have also create 12” end links that are too long. This forces the sway bar down to a -20° angle. it is recommend that the sway bar be positioned at -10° / Level / +10°.

The Super-Pro and other end links for the Connect, measured 12” or 300mm. In order to correctly align the sway bar, we cut 1/4” off each end link center rods then reattached the ball joints ending up with 11.5 inch or 292mm end link. Installing these modified end links, tightened up the front end significantly and the van corners extremely well, So much so that we may not need to install the 28mm Hardrace sway bar. Body roll has been reduced and the van will turn on a dime.

You asked, “what would you like to see us write about”. I would like to see the column “Ford and Bosch agree to pay to replace the defective CP4 high pressure fuel pumps with the new S&S DCR (diesel common rail) fuel pump” to prevent further expensive catastrophes in the Super Duty Fords.

I found a video on YouTube under “Ford 2.0L Ecoboost Engine Misfire and Coolant Consumption Issue Fix!” The video outlines the issues involved and the required repair.) Depending on the model and the year, the 4 cylinder Ecoboost engines have an issue with coolant intrusion into the cylinder(s). This is covered in detail in Ford’s TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) #22-2229.

Our vehicle is a 2018 Edge Titanium AWD. Our coolant consumption continues requiring frequent topoffs. No visible leaks, so it’s going somewhere. The coolant intrusion is causing misfires on one cylinder (which cylinder is involved can vary.) My understanding is that if the cooling system test is good – no leaks and coolant is found in the cylinder, the engine must be replaced per Ford’s TSB which indicates a long block replacement to fix the issue.

Our 2018 Edge Titanium AWD with Ecoboost 2.0 engine is at the Ford dealership for testing and diagnosis. Our coolant consumption has continued, requiring frequent topoffs to avoid overheating issues. Misfires on cylinder #4 also continue per OBDII readout, p0304. There have been no noticeable coolant leaks, leading to the suspiscion that coolant is invading the cylinder. Per Ford’s TSB #22-2229, if this situation is confirmed a long block replacement is the indicated fix per the TSB.

Recently our Edge has been harder to start. The last time we experienced telltale “white smoke” from both tailpipes. At that point we took it to a local Ford dealership. If the cooling system pressure tests no leaks and coolant is detected by boresight, the engine will have to be replaced.

When we bought the Edge from a KIA dealership, we also bought a PowerProtect warranty on the drivetrain. The dealership and the warranty company are hopefully working to fix this issue under the warranty.

During my vacation I got engine errors and my power was limited forcefully, so I stopped at a Ford Service and they told me that my DPF filter was clogged and they removed the errors and somehow even the power limitation, telling me that it will help me to get home without the power limitation and that the errors will reappear after about 250 km.

Well, after they intervened, my instant and median fuel consumptions were no longer indicated, as well as the km until empty, and i was not able to read the engine error codes anymore with my Bluetooth OBD interface, which now only sees ECU#1, not as well ECU#2 and ECU#3 as before.

Their diagnosis read a DPF_LOAD of 347% and a DPF_SOOT_LD of 300%, but they were not able to find the root cause.

The engine errors resurfaced after more than 500 km, but without the power limitation, and pulling in at another Ford Service, closer to home, they found the root cause to be the cracked intercooler, but strangely their soot load reading was exponentially lower: DPF_LOAD of 38% and DPF_SOOT_LD of 300%.

What could that Ford Service have done so that my Bluetooth OBD interface does not read the error codes anymore and only sees ECU#1?

I’ve attached the Mondeo Technician View After Fault.

Finally received my 2023 Maverick just two weeks shy of a year, At the time I ordered it the Luxury package included the drop in bed liner. Also was showing the bed mounting rail system was included. But none of that shows up on my purchase order. Purchase order does not show anything that was included in the Luxury package, just says xlt luxury package. Dealership told me that I would get all of it even if they changed anything later. Well I did not get either item and dealership tells me sorry, nothing they can do about it. Said Ford was jerking a lot of people around. Not a good first experience with them.

I ordered a 2024 Ford Ranger Lariat Crew Cab and prefer that it have a 2.7L V6 Ecoboost engine. I was told by my dealer that the 2.7L V6 would be available in late fall 2023 but in the meantime I must order it with a 4 cylinder 2.3L.
If you go to the “price and order” site for the Bronco, you’re given the option of choosing the different power plants including the 2.7L V6 yet you’re not given this option when ordering a 2024 Ranger! Why the mystery?

    Topic: Advanced safety features

I have had 3 different Ford products with advanced safety features, One, a 2020 Edge would hug the center of the road so far to the left that I feared I’d lose my mirror to oncoming traffic. I asked several Ford service advisors to recalibrate the settings to move the the car over to the right when the Lane Keeping feature was engaged. They all told me that the feature was set at the factory and could NOT be adjusted.
Recently, I had the windshield replaced and the folks at “Safelite” adjusted all of the advanced features. NOW the Edge stays in the center of the lane.
Has anyone else had a similar situation?

I am needing to find out what is the engine family number for Ford F550 dump trucks that have a 2007 navistar engine. The label has fallen off mine, and neither Ford nor Navistar International has that info. It is a 12 digit number. Help! California is outlawing these trucks and I’m trying to keep mine for low usage.

Re-Program of the PCU won’t fix the fact that Ford didn’t use the rear differential mount sub-frame originally for the ST designed to handle the torque produced by the 3.0L EcoBoost engine under hard acceleration.
Has anyone had the proper (4 bolt) sub-frame installed by a dealer? Who’s the dealer & location?
Anyone know if Ford will honor the warranty if an aftermarket differential brace is installed?
Ford Performance will install a 93 obtain “Tune” supposedly adding 30HP to the ST and doesn’t affect the warranty. Any info. if they will install it on an Explorer ST with the improper 3 bolt rear subframe?
I see the NHTSA has opened a probe into two previous Ford recalls in relation to this problem. There also have been two (2) class action law suits opened in regard to this.
Any further information on this topic would be appreciated.

There are features on 2022 Ford models that were inexplicably withdrawn, delayed, refunded or just plain disappeared from 2023 models. Ford says supply chain issues.

    Here’s a partial list:
    Hands-free tailgate lift
    Park Assist 2.0
    Rear cargo mat

Will Ford explain these missing features and tell owners whether they plan to add those back to exisiting customers when missing components are obtained?
