Sales of the Mustang Mach-E (see running Ford Mustang Mach-E sales) posted a 10 percent decrease to 13,392 units, the F-150 Lightning (see running Ford F-150 Lightning sales) experienced a 104 percent jump for 7,162 deliveries, and the E-Transit (see running Ford E-Transit sales) posted a 13 percent leap moving 2,995 units.

In terms of sales share, the Mustang Mach-E drastically outsold its two stablemates with a 57 percent share, while the F-150 Lightning followed with 17 percent, and the E-Transit at 12 percent. It’s important to note, however, that these three models are very different and compete in disparate segments for divergent customers.

The Ford Authority Take

Ford EV sales posted healthy gains during Q3 2024. Both the E-Transit and F-150 Lightning were in the green, while the Mustang Mach-E was in the red.

The Mustang Mach-E continues to face tough competition and declining interest in EVs altogether. However, it’s worth noting that the Mach-E outsold its gasoline powered namesake, the Ford Mustang, which posted just over 9,000 sales last quarter. The situation will be very different for Q4 2024, at least for the F-150, as Ford recently paused F-150 Lightning production at the Ford Rouge Electric Vehicle Center starting in November into 2025 amid slower-than-expected demand.

For its part, Ford leadership has indicated that the EV pivot will depend largely on consumer interest. Ford CEO Jim Farley remains optimistic that Ford EV sales will grow into future, believing that consumers will eventually embrace EVs. In the meantime, hybrids serve as a bit of a stepping stone for buyers who may be resistant to go fully electric.

About Ford Mustang Mach-E

For 2024, the first-ever Mustang Mach-E Rally debuts as an off-road-capable EV, looking the part with a unique front fascia, fog lights, a hatch-mounted rear wing, stripes, and a black-painted roof. Meanwhile, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT debuts a new Bronze Appearance Package along with optional bronze wheels. Additionally, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Premium gets a new standard roof to replace the now-optional panoramic fixed-glass roof. Additionally, the revised 2024 lineup gets a new eMotor and extended range.

The 2024 Mustang Mach-E lineup drops the California Route 1 trim as well as the Nite Pony Package  and the GT Performance Edition, though the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT gains most of the upgrades from package as standard, like the MagneRide system – but not the increased torque that model offered.

About Ford F-150 Lightning

For 2024, the Ford F-150 Lightning drops two configurations. Yet, it adds a new Flash trim level, sitting above the XLT trim, as an option that bundles tech upgrades and the extended range battery at a more reasonable price. On the other end of the spectrum, The Blue Oval debuted the Platinum Black trim, with the F-150 Lightning being the first production Ford truck to feature a matte wrap.

The 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning gains ActiveX seating for the Lariat trim, and the entire 2024 lineup gets a heat pump as standard, while dropping Active Park Assist 2.0.

About Ford E-Transit

When the all-electric Ford E-Transit van arrived on scene in early 2022, its success caught The Blue Oval by surprise, with it racing up to catch up with demand. Since then, the E-Transit is now among the most popular fleet EVs.

The 2024 Ford E-Transit gets a new battery and faster charging, for increased range.

The Blue Oval is already working on a second-generation Ford E-Transit, which will roll out of Ohio in 2026 as the all-electric commercial van market slowly heats up.
